Stories By the Men of the USS Midway Veterans Association
Some 225,000 men are estimated to have served aboard the USS Midway during her forty-seven years of service to our country between 1945 and 1992. Midway was a great ship, and we all have our own memories of our time aboard her. These stories – the ones provided here – represent only a fraction of the stories I’ve published in the MVA newsletter over the years, as its editor. All these stories come directly from the memory banks of MVA members, inspired by their duty on the USS Midway in some way.
The ten stories listed by title below – tall tales from the past, some might call them – are among my favorites. Read them and you’ll see why.
Does any of this inspire you to tell your own Midway stories, shipmates? If so, send them my way, and I’ll either publish them in this section of MVA’s website or in the MVA newsletter, or in both places. Send your story to the editor, Dave Payson, at
