This website is dedicated to the memory of Craig William Harper, 57, the USS Midway Veterans Association's late Webmaster who passed away February 27. 2015, in his hometown of Reno, Nevada, after bravely fighting cancer.
As a self-taught Commodore 64, computer whiz who later earned numberous IT certifications, Craig was an avid user of the Internet and made his living as an IT Professional.
He was a lover of all things science fiction and astronomy. He enjoyed old-horror classics, cooking, camping, 4-wheeling, archery, hunding, firearms, and loved his dog, Sheeba. Perhaps most of all, he was a proud Navy veteran, serving on the USS Midway as an Operations Specialist Second Class (OS2) from 1975 to 1977, participating in the Midway's efforts in the evacuation of Saigon, in 1975.
After being honorably discharge,m he enjoyed attending Midway reunions and staying connected with his Midway shipmates and friends. Craig became MVA's Webmaster in 2005 and held that post until his death in 2015.
He ushered us into the 21st century with his advanced Web skills and innovative ideas. His tech support was invaluable at our reunions, as he kept the confounding machines running for us, and did the same at home in Reno for the customers he served in his IT job.
For nearly a decade, Craig posted all the MVA news and pictures that were "fit to print" on our website. He also played a key roll in our reunions fundraising efforts, cheerfully volunteering his time to help run the raffles, drawings and other various contest we play to raise money for the USS Midway Museum's charitable programs. Craig was a great shipmate and friend. Gone but not forgotten, he is sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
