Respectfully, Tim Miller MVA Secretary
MINUTES FOR THE MIDWAY VETERAN’S ASSOCIATION BUSINESS MEETING
30 September 2023 in Norfolk, Virginia during the 2023 MVA Convention

The meeting was begun by the Vice President of Conventions; Steve DeCata

Points of Discussion:

2024 Three Sisters Re-union to be held at the Wyndham Bayside Hotel in San Diego, CA; on 22-26 September 2024

Armed Forces Re-unions will make the arrangements

MVA will choose between two caterers for the Banquet to be held on the USS Midway Museum; they are The Wild Thyme Company or Continental Catering (we used this company on previous conventions) Bernard Ray Tillery, Treasurer of MVA, was interviewed by CEO of the USS Midway Museum for possible membership of the Museum’s Board of Directors in order to have representation of the MVA on the Museum’s leadership. This request for this representation was made by Steve DeCata. We have yet to be notified of acceptance. The MVA Board of Directors, in a previous meeting, has provided Tillery with a vote of confidence to represent the MVA should our acceptance be approved by the Museum’s Board of Directors.

The conduct of relationships with the members of the Three Sisters for future re-unions was discussed. The other members, Coral Sea and FDR, have requested input to the conduct of the future re-unions. The MVA Board of Directors shall discuss this circumstance in interim Board telephone conferences. A discussion regarding the selection of hotels for future re-unions in San Diego took place. The Wyndham has already been selected and a deposit has been submitted for the 2024 re-union. Future hotel use for conventions beyond 2024 shall be discussed at future dates. It was noted that the 50 year anniversary of the “Frequent Wind” incident shall occur in May of 2025.

It was noted that the Midway Museum offers Zoom speakers to any who request. Members of MVA are encouraged to communicate the promotion of the Midway Museum in their own communities utilizing the resources of the Museum as ambassadors of the Museum.

A vote was taken to confirm the Vice President of Administration of the MVA to be Marty Fitzgerald.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernard Ray Tillery, MVA Treasurer
